Generative AI tools are reshaping the content creation landscape, with over 100,000 such tools currently available to users. As exciting as that may sound, it can also be overwhelming. With so many options vying for your attention, how do you choose the right tools for your content strategy? To simplify things, it’s helpful to categorize generative AI tools into three primary buckets: template-driven, sketch-driven, and fully generative AI.

Understanding the strengths and limitations of each category can help you identify which tools best fit your specific needs, whether you’re creating content on a budget, experimenting with design, or crafting completely unique content from scratch.

1. Template-Driven AI Tools

What are they?
Template-driven AI tools are the most prevalent in the marketplace, and for good reason. These tools are user-friendly, requiring little effort or expertise on the end user’s part to produce a solid output. Template-driven tools operate by using pre-designed assets — such as color palettes, images, and layouts — into which users input specific information about their project. The AI then interprets this data and combines the assets to generate a semi-unique content piece.
